Beginning Farmer Fall Class

You are invited to participate in the Beginning Farmer Fall Classes which will be held on Thursday evenings in October 2019 (4 classes) at the University of Maryland Extension, Frederick County Office from 6:30 to 8:30pm.
Cost for the series is $30.00; registration is required. Cancellations are subject to credit card processing fees. Participants can receive refunds up to 7 days before the event start date.
Class 1: Guidelines for Leasing Ag Land and Navigating Regulations
Date: Thursday, October 3
Speakers: Paul Goeringer and Kelly Nichols
Paul Goeringer is an Extension Legal Specialist with University of Maryland Extension. He specializes in agriculture risk management, agriculture leasing, and estate planning. During the class, Paul will review the components of an ag lease and how to calculate a fair rental price.
Kelly Nichols is an Ag Agent with University of Maryland Extension in Frederick County. Her focus is on small farms, soil science, and agronomy. Kelly will talk about regulations regarding value-added products, food safety, butchering, and eggs.
Class 2: Integrated Pest Management
Date: Thursday, October 10
Speaker: Jerry Brust
Jerry Brust is the Vegetable Integrated Pest Management Specialist (IPM) with University of Maryland Extension. He works with all types of vegetable crops, high tunnel and field production, and organic and convention production. Jerry will discuss how to implement an IPM program on your farm and identification of pest and beneficial species.
Class 3: Small Farm Equipment

Location: Farm in Jefferson
Speaker: Matt Morris
Matt Morris is an Ag Agent with University of Maryland Extension in Frederick County. His focus is on agronomy, dairy, and beef. He also raises cattle on his farm in Jefferson. Matt will discuss equipment maintenance and upkeep as well as rotational grazing and fencing.
Class 4: Marketing Your Products
Date: Thursday, October 24
Speaker: Ginger Myers
Ginger Myers is a Marketing Specialist with University of Maryland Extension. She assists farmers in developing marketing strategies. Ginger will talk about ways to advertise, marketing trends, and how to price products.
