Description: Whether you own or manage 1 acre or 100 acres, this evening will provide you the knowledge and resources to create new natural areas from lawn or pasture, or enhance existing woodland for wildlife, recreation, privacy, sanctuary, or other objectives. The workshop will help you:

Assess your property using photos to distinguish the types of habitats that exist on your property and understand the potential for wildlife and forest health.
Gain a working knowledge of ecological, forest, and wildlife principles and practices through directed activities on your property. This workshop will help you identify the next steps to reach your objectives.

Craft a plan to guide your stewardship efforts that includes projects you can do when you leave that help you enhance and enjoy your property now and for the future.
Learn about property tax reduction programs, financial assistance, and other educational opportunities that help implement your projects and be a wise woodland steward.

This program is offered by the University of Maryland Extension Woodland Stewardship Program www.extension.umd.edu/woodland. The course will utilize the Woods in Your Backyard guide and workbook (worth $30) along with other materials. Description of the materials is available at: www.extension.umd.edu/woodland.
